This Deccan work centres on Lord Vishnu, the divine force associated with preservation, balance and the protection of cosmic order.

Unlike the richer colour and ornament often seen in other devotional painting traditions, the Deccan treatment relies on restraint — fine linework, a muted palette and a layered surface that brings attention to form, posture and iconography.

The result is contemplative rather than decorative: Vishnu appears as a calm, stabilising presence, with the simplicity of the composition allowing the symbolism of the figure to take centre stage.
