Nine ideals at the centre of Jain spiritual practice.

The Siddhachakra is one of the most important sacred diagrams in Jain tradition. At its centre is the Arihant, surrounded by the eight other padas or revered principles that together form the Navapada.

These represent the spiritual teachers and qualities central to the Jain path — including Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu, right faith, right knowledge, right conduct and austerity.

Around this sacred centre, the painting expands into a much larger world of divine attendants, goddesses, guardians and symbolic figures. The composition is highly ordered: every layer moves outward from the central spiritual ideal.

What looks at first like an elaborate decorative painting is actually a diagram of devotion, knowledge and the path towards liberation.
