In Jain cosmology, Jambudvipa is the central continent of the middle world — the realm in which human life exists and from which liberation is possible.

This composition turns that idea into a precise visual map. Concentric rings represent continents and oceans, while rivers, shrines, pathways and sacred markers organise the universe into a carefully ordered whole. At the centre lies the cosmic axis of Jain geography, with the surrounding world expanding outward in measured layers.

What makes works like this so compelling is that they sit somewhere between painting, philosophy and cartography. They were not simply made to decorate a wall, but to help make an immense cosmological idea visible and understandable.

The closer one looks, the more the painting reveals — a universe structured through symmetry, direction and belief.
